Taiwan is the United States tenth-largest trading partner in goods with more than $65,000,000,000 in goods traded between the two in 2016, and in addition the United States is the leading country for foreign direct investment in Taiwan. Hundreds of thousands of jobs in the U.S. rely on our exports to Taiwan.
House Resolution 271 encourages the United States Trade Representative to commence negotiations to enter into a bilateral trade agreement with Taiwan. Taiwan, as a democracy and free market economy, shares principles and values with us, providing a strong foundation for open, fair, and mutually beneficial trade relations.
